# The Art of Licensing

> The premier global hub connecting human-made art with commercial markets. Education, professional pathways, and a thriving community for artists, art directors, and manufacturers since 2008.

The Art of Licensing (also known as ArtLicensingShow.com) is a community and resource platform founded by artist Cherish Flieder. It connects human-made, artist-created art with commercial markets — manufacturers, art directors, and licensees — and provides education, events, and professional pathways for the art licensing industry.

## What is art licensing?

Art licensing is the business of granting legal permission (a license) to a manufacturer or company to use an artist's original artwork on products such as greeting cards, fabric, home décor, stationery, gifts, and more, in exchange for royalties or a flat fee. The artist (licensor) retains ownership of the copyright while the company (licensee) gains the right to use specific images under defined terms.
